The moment we have been waiting for is now here. Championship week in 4A Public school football is here. The Wise Pumas face the Broadneck Bruins this Friday for possibly the game of the year at Navy Marine Corps Stadium. The wise pumas have had a very successful season, going 7-0 in the region with an 11-1 overall record. led by head coach DaLawn Parrish, who has led them to 5 championships in the last 10 years. Out of those five championships, they have won four. The last time they made the championship was the 2021–2022 season, where they suffered a 31–13 loss to Quince Orchard. One more game for the Pumas as they try to win their sixth championship.
DeCarlos Young, the Pumas’ standout junior running back, helps them dominate in the run game. In 23 touchdowns and 1249 yards of rushing so far this season, he has not fumbled. This year, he ranks third among 4A rushers. Peyton Nelson, their standout junior running back, has amassed 819 yards of rushes, 11 touchdowns, and zero fumbles. He is 4A’s fifth-best rusher. At last, Gregory Pruitt, the senior running back for the Pumas, ran for 804 yards and 11 touchdowns—yes, you guessed it—without any fumbles. He ranks 5th among rushers in 4A. The Pumas’ quarterback, Eric Wedge III, had 924 yards and 11 touchdowns with no interceptions, so don’t disregard their passing game either. This team won’t turn the ball over, that much I can say for sure.
The Broadneck Bruins are led by head coach Rob Harris. This would be their first championship in 10 years if they win this Friday. They had an overall record of 11-2 and 7-1 in their region. They strive for a strong passing game led by their star senior receiver, Eli Harris, who has caught passes for 32 passes for 599 yards and 6 touchdowns in only 7 games played. With an average of 85.6 yards per game and 18.72 yards per catch. He is 4th among receivers in 4A. Their run game is also something to watch. Their run game isn’t something to sleep on, led by Ian Maudlin, who rushed for 593 yards and 10 touchdowns, which ranks him 10th among 4A running backs. This is a team with a lot of heart and passion.
