Linganore routs Oakdale to claim 3A State Championship
December 6, 2025
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Linganore (13-0) has spent its entire season overpowering its opponents on both sides of the ball, and Saturday night’s MPSSAA Class 3A State Championship game was no different. The combination of power running from senior Bradly Matthews, the electric arm of quarterback David Doy, and a suffocating defense, just as they have all season, propelled the Lancers to a dominant 56-17 victory over Frederick County rival Oakdale (10-3) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The Linganore defense held Oakdale to only 178 total yards for the entire night. Quarterback Alex Rodriguez was pressured the entire night, completing only 8-of-21 passes for 108 yards, and also throwing two interceptions. The Bears only managed 70 yards on the ground on 21 carries, and, although Oakdale led midway through the second quarter, they were never able to sustain enough offense to remain close to Linganore.
Doy had a huge night for the Lancers, completing 16-of-21 passes for 266 yards and five touchdowns. Matthews had one of those scoring receptions, while also running for 161 yards and three separate rushing touchdowns on 31 carries. In total, six players caught passes for Linganore, with four of those players grabbing at least one touchdown.
Oakdale hung tough with the Lancers through much of the first half. Despite falling behind 14-3 after the first quarter, the Bears would add two touchdowns within the span of two and a half minutes. Rodriguez scored from 4-yards out on a QB keeper, and Charlie Alt picked off Doy’s pass and returned it 51 yards for a pick-six. That return gave Oakdale a 17-14 lead, but Linganore managed to score three touchdowns in the final five and a half minutes of the half, and took a 35-17 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Oakdale just could not do anything at all on offense. The Lancers defense held Oakdale to only 69 yards of total offense after halftime, and forced Rodriguez into throwing two picks. Meanwhile, Linganore fed Matthews the ball and wore out the Bears defense. Matthews scored all three of Linganore’s second half touchdowns, to bring his season total to 40 trips to the end zone. With his effort on Saturday night, he also eclipsed the 2,000 yard mark for the season, finishing with 2,124 total on 246 carries.
Linganore finishes the season undefeated and finally breaks its streak of five-straight losses in state championship games, dating back to 2018. The Lancers pick up their first title since 2017, and their seventh overall in school history, and continue a dominant fall season on the gridiron, which also saw their flag football team bring home the state title as well.
