Don’t Forget the Crusaders
November 12, 2024
A year ago I told you to remember the Crusaders; I hope you haven’t forgotten. Top 5 team in the DMV, undefeated season, multiple division one athletes. Just a few phrases to describe the Riverdale Baptist Crusaders, led by Head Coach Olandis Gary. The Crusaders ended the 2024-2025 football season with an 10-0 overall record. Outscoring their opponent’s 289-102. The Crusaders high-powered offense is led by quarterback Kash Carter. The sophomore threw for 2,246 yards and 17 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions and an overall quarterback rating of 131.8. Carter was helped by star talent at receiver with three Division I receivers. Emmanuel Dyson, who is committed to the University of Marshall; Jayden Kitchens, a sophomore receiver with multiple Division One offers; and Giyani Kontosis, who is committed to the University of Cincinnati.
The game of football has changed this past decade; the running game has faded from most offenses in today’s game, but a team with a strong run and pass game nine times out of ten is a successful one. The Crusaders had a very successful run game with a team rushing for 1,738 yards and 19 touchdowns. With two runners over 500 yards, Aveon Cobb and Taariq Denson.
They say offense sales tickets, but defense wins ball games. The Crusaders have a defense that sells tickets and wins ball games. Lead by defense of coordinator Andre Kates, a former head coach of Rock Creek Academy. The Crusaders won seven of their eight wins by two or more touchdowns and only allowed six points at home. With a stunning defense of line with two big-ten commits, Nasir Taylor committed to the University of Maryland and Cortez Harris committed to Penn State University. The backend of this defense is also strong, led by the defense of back coach Bo, also known as DB Sensei. His defense of backs gave receivers trouble all year.
A new standard has been set for Crusader nation.
