On Friday 9/22 the Liberty Lions headed down to Union Bridge to take on the FSK Eagles. The Eagles coming off a tough loss had them determined going into this game versus an in-county opponent.
The game started on a positive note when in the first quarter the ball was near the Eagles endzone but the Lions had possession. The Lions center snapped the ball high over the quarterback and Chris Thomas, (Eagles Linebacker) spotted the ball and made a run for it. He dove on it as it rolled across the goal line and it was ruled a defensive touchdown for the Eagles.
After this touchdown from FSK the Lions were ready to fight to take the lead back. They did so by scoring 3 touchdowns before entering halftime. Liberty Quarterback had a great game, throwing for two touchdowns that were 30 yards plus each. One being 40 plus yards thrown to Micheal Martin, (Liberty Receiver) who made a great play on the ball. Liberty’s last touchdown was scored from a running play minutes before the clock sounded for halftime.
The Eagles kept their heads high coming out of the locker room down by 15. They weren’t too far out of reach from the Lions. FSK’s defense played lights out the rest of the night allowing zero points scored by the Lions in the second half of play. The only problem was that the Eagles couldn’t get the offense rolling, a very defensive half from both teams resulted in the score remaining the same for the remainder of the game.
Both teams showed good effort throughout the game with the Lions putting on an offensive showcase in the first half, and the Eagles shutting down the Lions for the rest of the game.
The Lions won this game by a score of 21-6 moving them to an even record at 2-2. This pushed the Eagles down to an 0-4 start with them looking to have a good turning point in the season next week when they take on Century Highschool.
